Justin’s interest in music and music training began at an early age with the study of Suzuki piano. He continued his piano studies until year 9 at the Conservatorium High School. Justin commenced formal trumpet lessons in year 5 of primary school and this became his main passion at the Conservatorium High School.
Following this, Justin completed various degrees and courses on the trumpet, first at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studied a Bachelor of Music of Performance, and then at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) Conservatorium of Music he completed a Graduate Diploma in Professional Music Practice (2012), a Bachelor of Music Honours (2013) and a Bachelor of Music Honours (Elite) (2014).
Justin’s trumpet teacher’s at the Conservatorium High School into the Sydney Conservatorium of music were Andrew Evans, Head of the Brass Unit and Leanne Sullivan, principal Trumpet of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. While in Hobart, Justin was under tutelage of Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet, Yoram Levy.
Justin has performed with numerous ensembles such as the Sydney Youth Orchestra and the Willoughby brass band. In 2008, Justin enlisted with the 1/15 Royal NSW Lancers Army Reserve Band and upon his move to Hobart in 2011 he transferred to the Australian Army Band Tasmania. In April 2015 he transferred to the full time the Australian Army Band Corp with his first posting to the Royal Military College Band. Justin is also currently a casual member of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) and is a recipient of the UTAS Orchestral Brass Scholarship in 2012 and the UTAS TSO Brass Scholarship (2014).
